Pixel and I were assisting a tech‑user over the phone when something miraculous happened.
The moment the tech‑user stepped closer to the malfunctioning device — within five feet, to be exact — the computer suddenly sprang back to life.
Pixel gasped.

What’s actually going on?
The legend of the Five Foot Rule states:
If a malfunctioning computer, printer, or device is within five feet of a tech‑hero — or even the tech‑hero’s voice over the phone — it will surrender and suddenly start working as it should.
No matter how stubborn the issue seemed moments before, the device often snaps back to normal the instant a tech‑hero is nearby. It’s one of the great mysteries of the Digital District — and one of the most entertaining.
But as magical as it feels, it’s not foolproof.
The Rescue Plan
The Five‑Foot Rule is real — or at least, real enough that tech‑heroes witness it constantly. But it’s not a replacement for proper troubleshooting.
If your device magically fixes itself when help arrives, enjoy the moment.
If it doesn’t, your tech‑hero will guide you through the next steps.
