The life of a superhero may seem glamorous to some:
We save people from enemies, and sometimes from themselves.
We solve problems, fix issues, and kiss babies. (Or maybe that’s politicians?)
What many don’t realize is that even superheroes struggle sometimes. We have days where everything that could go wrong does go wrong. We have moments where we wish we could blend in with the crowd. We have situations that cause us panic – just like the people we serve.
For me, my car is typically the culprit.
I know a ton about repairing computers. Laptops, desktops, cell phones – you have one, I can fix it. But my car? It’s like a giant battery-driven electrical machine that could combust into flames if I look at it wrong.
(I really do understand why so many feel the same way about their computers.)
The funny thing is, most modern cars contain computers. They also contain fuses, gasoline, and all the makings of a bomb. (Don’t quote me on this.) Just like with computers, cars and water don’t mix well. Unfortunately, that brings me to my latest saga.
My TechniCar was left out in the rain – with the windows down.
If the car were a bit smaller, I’d put it in a bag of rice. Unfortunately, my next best option was to enlist the help of the true heroes – friends who are mechanically inclined.
This became imperative when the horn started beeping erratically, the windshield wipers became uncontrollable, and the radio developed a mind of its own. (My first thought was to call in an exorcism. Thankfully, I know a few mechanics.)
So to those who call for help on their computers, I understand your fear. Just as I learned how to change fuses and dehumidify my driving machine, you too can understand your technology enough to “get back on the road” (figuratively speaking). There’s no shame in asking for help.
