There’s a day for Fathers, a day for Ice Cream, a day for Feeding the B
I didn’t. I once received a gift for Administrative Professionals day and was SO grateful to finally be acknowledged for my work. Unfortunately, someone complained that IT doesn’t count, so it never happened again.
I once created my own IT Appreciation holiday on April 1. Unfortunately, it was also April Fools day, so nobody believed me. Still, I bought myself a cupcake to celebrate… Myself.
We IT heroes work hard to fight the battles of our peers. Yes, it’s our job, but like many heroes, we are frequently forgotten after the emergency fades. We are often blamed for tech failures, problems, and other struggles outside of our control. Like every person, we long for a “thank you,” a “good job,” a “we appreciate you.”
On the 3rd Tuesday of September, you are formally encouraged to appreciate your IT Heroes. Don’t worry, I didn’t make up another holiday – it’s on the Internet, so it has to be official!
Bring them cookies, buy them a beer, or simply say “thank you” for coming to your rescue when the need arises. You have no idea how much they’ll appreciate it – and how appreciated it will make them feel.
