You post your passwords on a post-it thinking it’ll help you remember.
“Everybody does it,” you think. “I can glance at my computer screen and log right in.”
True. But so can everybody else.
You don’t know who is glancing at your monitor as they walk by.
“But I trust my co-workers,” you may think. “I keep no secrets from my spouse.”
Think about it this way, how would you feel if you discovered your co-worker was impersonating you? Would you let your spouse assume your identity? What about someone with malicious intent?
Your computer login is the barrier to your online identity. Your email password prevents people from sending an email on your behalf. If someone misuses your access, YOU will be the one to blame. All evidence will point back to you.
It reminds me of the time Hawaii experienced a missile threat scare months after someone posted a photo with the missile warning system password on a sticky note in the background. (The two may or may not be related, but the threat is real.)
